Hello everyone. I am a 25 year old married mother of two. I have been married for 8 years with a stress free marriage....that is until a year ago. I have dreamed since the age of 12 about starting a small community based program in which I hoped would expand to different cities in states. This is how I outlined the program: Families had to make $35,000 per household. They would show proof of income by me reviewing W-2. Only 2 children per household could participate in program. Youth had to be between the ages of 12 and 16 to participate. They would be employed for 1 year with the program and after that they would be on a waiting list for the following year and contacted in case youth who signed up didnt show. Youth whom worked the previous year would be given priority on the waiting list for following year if they performed outstanding in the year they worked. Number of youth allowed to participate would be up to sixteen since there are sixteen passenger vans. I would allow girls and boys to participate. Work week would consist of Monday through Saturday. Since Monday through Friday are school days, on those days work would start at 4:30pm and end at 7pm. When kids are on break from school the work days would be longer. Each workday would consist of doing something different ranging from visiting and helping out at nursing homes, cleaning the community by doing yard work, cleaning sidewalks, helping out with making the community look better by doing various jobs, participating in summer activities such as basketball, soccer, volley ball, dance, arts etc. There would also be days in which we would just have group discussions so the youth can vent and express concerns in the community or about themselves. Each youth would be given a stipend at the end of each week in the form of a check so they could open a savings account and learn the importance of money and savings. Youth would still be given the option to just cash check but the importance of saving would be stressed. Stipends would be for $150.00 per week and if a day is missed youth would be docked for that day by $25.00. The program would be designed to motivate, teach prepareness for the real world in working, engaging in community involvement, keeping youth busy by giving them a way to earn honest money and for youth, especially those living in at risk communities. My reason for stating this is because I attempted to search for grants who would help but no one wanted to help. To run this non profit organization it would cost at least $300,000 per year to operate and thats including gas for van but startup cost would be around $80,000 for van and supplies and rental of building for youth to meet. I would like to get 2 vans so my husband can drive 1 and I drive the other. That way we may be able to employ more youth but we would start off with 1. My husband and I attempted to use our own funds for the program but as of last year we both lost our jobs making combined $90,000. So now my husband is doing odd jobs to make ends meet and I do odd jobs ( like cleaning). It has become so difficult because we both used to work in the financial industry and since our credit has become tarnished since we fell behind on our bills we cant obtain a job due to they pull credit. So what I would like to know is do anyone know of a private agency, or individual who is willing to donate the money for this purpose and dream that I have to make communities better. I would be more than willing to provide documents on progress of program and any other documents needed to show that I am very serious on making this program happen.
